I know it’s old school to say, but I miss the days of good music videos. When I say good, I really mean videos that make an impact. I especially love creepy music videos. Here are some of the best videos for getting under your skin…and crawling around…and coming out of your eye.
Bjork – All is Full of Love
I don’t know what it is, but this gives me the skeevers. Bjork kinda gives me the skeevers by herself (especially as a robot). Her music is so creepy and dreamy at times and this is another good example of matching that visually. The faces on the robots are unnerving. The imagery is super sexual (I spy an anal probe!). Bonus points for the lesbianism and making out, too.
Tool – Parabola
May the gods bless Tool, for each one of their videos is fucked up awesomeness. I love them. This is a particular favorite. Fat flaming fingers. Dough faces that puke black bile. Gross brain imagery. Like I said, awesome.
Sepultura – Convicted in Life
Hi there, Dante’s Inferno. You look like a fun place. What’s that? Pigs eating entrails, fingers falling off the guitar player, chickens going to slaughter…yeah, that’s a party! Check it out. After dinner.
Martin Grech – Guiltless
The video to this song is pretty much a horror film short. Filled with creepy creatures, eery vocals, unsettling camera tricks and horror movie like sets it is right at home in this list. Enjoy.
Art of Noise – Moments In Love
I remember this from back in the day and it just never seemed right to me. The people watching the skating look straight out of some bad 80s fetish porn. Plus, the turtle talks and that ain’t right – unless you are a turtle with an Italian name. The 80s had a lot of videos like this. Honorable mention has to go to Total Eclipse of the Heart (the literal version) after watching this.
Nine Inch Nails – Closer
Sorry friends. After watching this one, I most definitely don’t want to fuck you like an animal. I want to go into a fetal position in the corner and cry. Although, Trent in leather gloves chained to the ceiling…yes, please.
Squarepusher – On My Selector
Fan of Japanese horror? Dig insane asylums? Then I have the video for you!! Japanese girls shouldn’t give us the creeps, but they always do, don’t they? Damn you, The Grudge!
Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People
Marilyn is creepy enough on his own, but he truly understands that freaky looking, elongated people are unsettling. He’s an entertainer – he gets it. I give him props for being a freak showman. Plus, he gets the most amazing women, doesn’t he??
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers – Mary Jane’s Last Dance
This one is on a lot of lists. Because it’s fucked up!! I love Tom, but he looks Poltergeist III skeletal. Worse, he’s dancing with dead Kim Basinger and you just know they’re gonna do it. Alec Baldwin thought she was a cold bitch, but this is craziness!
Aphex Twin – Come To Daddy
Everyone knows this is the stuff of nightmares. Scarier than most horror movies. Enjoy it all over again. Enough said.
The Cure – Lullaby
Such a great song from one of my favorite bands. This video is so fitting for the song too…the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight! Not for those that don’t like our 8-legged friends – or red lipstick on a dude.
