Pasadena Napalm Division – Pasadena Napalm Division

Time to sound like an old man. It’s unfortunate that the metal head youth of today did not get to experience the punk/thrash goodness of the bands D.R.I. and Dead Horse back in the day. Luckily for the young ones and us old timers, those bands are stirring things up once again. This time combining forces as Pasadena Napalm Division.
Pasadena Napalm Division is comprised of Kurt Brecht of D.R.I, Greg Martin, Scott Sevall and Ronnie Guyote of Dead Horse and Bubba.
I won’t go into a bunch of history and background about D.R.I and Dead Horse. Consult wikipedia for that. The short, short version is both are Texas based bands that created some killer Thrash metal in the ’80s and ’90s. Their music was Thrash but with some twists. D.R.I started out as punk then crossed over into a more Thrash sound. Yet they still held onto bits of that punk slant. Dead Horse incorporated a more Death Metal tone to their thrash. Both bands are worth seeking out if you are unfamiliar with them.
After a long hiatus, each band has recently started things back up and even keeping most of the original line-ups. Along with starting up the old bands, the two have also joined forces to create Pasadena Napalm Division and it is killer.
For the familiar, Pasadena Napalm Division sounds exactly like what you would expect and hope for from these two bands teaming up. The speed and ferocity of lightning fast Thrash these guys are known for is front and center. Pasadena Napalm Division is fast. The drums pound at blistering speed and the guitars squeal. Add to that Brecht’s distinct voice on vocals and it all works together to sound awesome. Both bands, known for having quite a bit of humor to their lyrics, have kept that going as well with tracks like “100 Beers With A Zombie” , “Spell It Out” where much of the lyrics are literally spelled out, and “Murder The Bearded Lady”.
Fans of ultra fast, punk style Thrash should rejoice. It sucked back in the day when D.R.I and Dead Horse fell off the map. Now with Pasadena Napalm Division they are back and hitting things with full force thrashing excellence. Pasadena Napalm Division is going to show the world just how things are done, Texas Thrash style.
